London firefighters deployed to Turkey
Earlier this month 12 of our firefighters were deployed to Turkey following devastating earthquakes. Joining up with colleagues from across the UK they spent a week providing aid and search and rescue capabilities, making a real difference to those affected.
50 years of service
Yvonne Adams says “If you love what you do, keep doing it.” So considering she’s been working in our 999 Control room for 50 years, we’re pretty sure Yvonne must love her job! We thank Yvonne for her positive attitude, expertise and many years of service.

Firefighter goes back to school
Firefighter Steven Cronin was called to help tackle a fire at his former school on Highgate Road in Dartmouth Park earlier this month. He said: “It was definitely handy that I knew the layout and had the local knowledge to be able to locate the fire quickly.”

Toaster ‘hack’ – not a Gouda idea
University is a place to learn important life lessons, but take our word for it when we say don’t use a toaster to make cheese on toast. One London student learnt that the hard way when their kitchen burnt down recently! Please – always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and don’t use the toaster for anything it’s not designed for.
